ArtCall Diary - Entry 4/01/2001
Webbittown: We won't get fooled again!
There is a wonderful little slide show under this share.
For those of you tuning in late: Webbittown is now in the red zone and can see the last mile of the ArtCall. 91% of the stock certificates are now completed and 81% are in the ArtCall book. Marianne Macy replaced Michael Nader as share #9. We will be offering share #4 to Alexandra Peers, a staff writer for The Wall Street Journal. Jim Knipfl's share #37 is officially missing-in-action. Wilfredo Arias had checked in with a late share #73. Mr. Arias was going to be reassigned to a different number this weekend. Greg Highlen (#52) checked in with a corporate seal share. Sorry, no rookie card for late submission, as there is no doubt that Ken Golden will handle the collector cards for The ArtCall.

Just the facts, Mam.

Gecko #50 barely provided the facts last sunday at Sunday Dinner with Gecko at the Collective Unconscious on Ludlow Street.

Gecko Saccomanno, a downtown artstar, has been involved in the performance scene for many years, expressing her art in a myriad of ways and venues. She has performed at Woodstock, Lollapolluza, Hammerstien Ballroom, Roseland Ballroom, the Guggenhiem, PS 1, PS 122, Westbeth, Pseudo, We Live In Public, Exit Art Gallery, and Here Gallery among others.

Gecko does large scale installations, on-the-fly performance installations, meta-media works, site-specific performances, sculptural art collages, and live events. As a producer, director, performer writer, artist, and diva, she is a very busy and highly productive East Village superstar.

She moved to New York with her band, and evolved through the music scene, the Nuyorican poetry scene, and the way underground art scene. She produced and performed her own works - all with a technological flavor.

Currently, she is a member of the Collective Unconscious, a not for profit 501-c3 arts and theater organization based on Ludlow Street for 4 years, where she is also one of the directors. Collective has been in the news lately with the Drama Desk awarded, Absolute grant-given play CVR, a play based on the actual transcripts of 6 plane crashes. CVR has been playing to sold out audiences for a year or more, and is about to launch the new season, and go on a global tour with it. It was most recently featured on the Jim Leher New's Hour in March.

Gecko's most recent series Sunday Dinner - the only performance you can eat is getting great reviews [ i.e. Fox News], and sold-out audiences. Think of it as a futuristic supper club, a six course meal and way-out entertainment. It is very audience interactive, and always features the great and wonderful TESLA coil. She has welcomed a new co-producer Eve Prince on board. The show runs the 4th Sunday of every month in perpetuity. Next show April 22- Theme CUBANO call the collective for details [212] 254-5277 or visit her website geckomania.com, where you can get an understanding of the breadth of her works, and check out the lineup for the cooking shows. She can also be reached at iamgecko@aol.com
