ArtCall Diary - Entry 5/01/2000
May Day and May Tag

It was a quiet Sunday Nite out in VillageLand... Heidi Follin of Follin Gallery, and Paul Kostabi of PoshBoy Records East and Kostabi World, read the writing on the wall. It was time to get a new carpet for the pad/recording studio/art gallery/painting studio/webbittown office... So it was off to Hasidic Depot in Brooklyn for a 6' x 9' rug. No, this was not some Kostabi Paint factory technique, this was serious floor covering. So for a quick $28.97 they were in good graces with their landlord once again and could stay in their $18,000,000.00 a month apartment. Next month, they go on rent strike until the lightbulb gets changed. How many Kostabi workers does it take?

This is the metaphor of metaphors for all your autos

So post-Brooklyn left us at Ray's Candy Stand, and we found John Penley in good spirits as his 'xx' birthday is Wednesday, May 3rd. It's a "Birthday Beach Fiesta for Gringo Loco aka John Penley", at the Whiskey Ward, 121 Essex St. - 9:30 pm till ?? Dress in beach bum dragscene for free tequila shots between 9:30 to 10:30 pm. You 'auto' go there and wish John all the best at what he swears will be his last birthday party "ever".

Now another thing you 'auto' do once in awhile is go visit Max Fish, down at 186 Ludlow St. within smelling distance of a good bagel. Harry Druzd has been holding court as a bartender there since the inception of the place in 1987. Harry has shows up there every once in a while and co-curates the Fish art exhibits, and is off to Costa Rica for a vacation, to dry out from too much sugar and turpentine.

With MayTag Day officially underway, Time-Warner went 'Goofy' and pulled the plug on Disney owned ABC. Both sides blamed each other and Jim Power, the Mosaic Man, tried to put it all together like his mosaics. He could not. Someone brought along a 'smoking gun' and all sorts of cops from Brooklyn showed up in the East Village 'just in case', although the party rolled from Union Sq. to City Hall, and then the good guys all got on the subway and went to an underpoliced Brooklyn. And a jolly good 'overtime' was had by all.
