In the lull before Thursday's art opening action, we went wanted "to
have Maria take a letter" ...she wouldn't ...but she did serve up some
mean
Ray's coffee and some juicy tidbits about
East 4th St., her residence of choice. Meanwhile, laundry and clothes horsing
were the chores of the afternoon as we readied for the Mary Boone opening
at 745 5th Ave. This show had a tremendous hype and we wanted to look really
sharp and 're'marketable.
So... after getting all the related parties together, it was off to
Uptown in the '91 Escort. We actually found a place to park on 56th and
Madison. Totally amazing for rush hour. Once off the elevator, we found
a packed house. So packed that the place was dry, not a drop of Dom Perignon
left. This is 6:45 we are talking here, not 7:30, not even 7:00! No...
Mary Boone wasn't sharp, but Willoughby was! And there he was, along with
a dozen or so of 'the usual suspects'. Willoughby currently has Nancy Lorenz
and her efflorescense field paintings hanging in his gallery until Thursday,
May 10th (558 Broome St.). Don't miss the sensational opening at Willoughby's
gallery on May 11th, the afterparty is to die for.

Mr. Sharp, an Aquarius, took us on an elevator tour of the 57th gallery scene. Post-Boone stops included; the stringy installation at Galerie LeLong, the appetizing oils at Washburn Gallery and the blobs at Littlejohn Contemporary. We then parted company and blasted down to the micro show at Gallery OneTwentyEight on Rivington Street to be amongst our own. Libations were still strong even in the 9 o'clock hour.
