ArtCall Diary - Entry 5/9/2000
UnReal Estate

Brother, can you sparejust 200 square feet?
The bank account being opened, we now had to look for a place to spend it on. Maybe becoming a bit illiquid, as we wait for the check to clear. But that story is for future installments. Meanwhile, back to the biz at hand, the ArtCall is now getting
space to assemble all the expected submissions. For this chore we need about 200 squares for up to 3 months tops, any kind of a place to box an NT server and have some table top room for meetings will do.

Marcia Lemmon - Community Board 3 memberMarcia is no lemon, however, she is a Lemmon. She runs a little company at 150 Ludlow Street called Cybersynergy which deals in intellectual properties. She also functions as a valued member of Community Board 3 in the East Village/Lower East Side. You will wind up in front of her if you have any kind of licensing situation needed for the neighborhood. Pictured here at Clayton Patterson's during a community confab, she is aware of the ArtCall's expansion needs and plans. She saw the first of the blank ArtCall shares and went wild with conceptualization.

Baron Von Blumenzak at rehearsalGrand Central Station Clock - Tuesday NiteShe serves the world's best coffee.
As we do our bit for culturalizaton, it was off to see Baron Von Blumenzak performing as 'Zero Boy', at the Philip Morris Museum, to see his latest performance piece. We got there only to find we were a day early, after wiping the egg off our face, we grabbed some java at Ray's Candy Store 'that just could not be beat' and plot strategy for the upcoming week. Matthew Courtney of the Wide-Open Cabaret checked in and was planning on attending Baron's gig. Harry Druzd was back from vacation looking absolutely fried to a 'Quentin Crisp'. Barbara Fox had submitted another Brighton Beach memoir at The Pink Pony, along with other notables such as Nico Smith and Ray Ray, who were astonished about the Ebay painting where the bidding had reached  $153,000+.

The first blank shares from the printer

Now having stuck our necks out early, we now couldn't deep-six the Baron's show. It was a star studded event even as the audience goes. And it was a star studded set of sketches, many of which Zero Boy has carefully crafted all over the East Village in the last 15 years. If this is what 15 years of performance art is gonna get you, we can not wait to see how some of the 'other usual suspects' turn out. His pieces "The Mayor's Croquet Party" and "Smoking Caterpillar" brought out the best of E/V anti-humor with notable quotes like "What are you, Bill Clinton or something? Don't you inhale?" "You can't dance, you can't play music, you can't play live music. You don't have a cabaret license!" And Zero Boy's ever famous sound improvisations kept the audience in stitches the whole time. Even little kids were enthralled to watch the Baron do his thing.

Joanie Freedom - Original East Village PioneerThe kids just kept on climbing the stairs to watchLoyan - A Gargoyle Mechanique founder
Loyan and Joanie Freedom were part of the huge throng of East Villagers in the Baron audience. Now while I've been given some 'freedom' to write a little, here is some just 'to die for' scene of the second scoop. A. Get yourself 'stuck at Stux' Gallery early tomorrow (Thursday). It is their 20th anniversary show and a can't miss quality art show that has the Starn Twins in it. Also can't miss is to 'be sharp at Willoughby Sharp Gallery' Get there late, there is a fab post-opening party at SPA. So you have been scened on the scene. Tomorrow: a hard drive, a masterpiece move, a visit to Bella, a convesation with Fong and press pass city at the Tattoo Convention this weekend.
