ArtCall Diary - Entry 5/27/2000
KatKitty's 3D Camera Cabaret
Artcall's daily workspace - 06/04/00 - presstime
The work began to pile up just like the picture above -layer upon layer, notebook upon notebook, flyer upon flyer, the information began to stack up and we had no time to write an Artcall. KatKitty (aka Bobbi, Booby and Brains) had touched down at noon on Friday. She promptly took up residence in room 318, at the Chelsea Hotel. She was sporting a brand new Minolta 1500 3D camera. We were wowed with Bobbi's 3D Gallery, she is now adding all kinds of things to it daily, so drop-in virtually from time to time.

After getting her settled in we dashed off to Kostabi World to catch the thrilling end of the day there, as two nice and shiny 700 mhz.Gateway 2000 computers arrived. We were there to take specs for what Kostabi World wanted in regards to their own webcam. It was then off for a quick visit to Clayton and Elsa, followed by another thrilling 'burger that could not be beat' needed before going to ABC No Rio for Matthew Courtney's Wide-Open Cabaret.
ArtCall HQ - going over notes
The Wide-Open Cabaret was packed, I looked at Nolan Rhodes for about 15 minutes before he had to reintroduced himself. KatKitty rendered him in her 3d camera. My memory mnemonic was 'Owen Nolan' the hockey player and I couldn't get passed that. The room filled with many of the No Rio cabaret regulars like David Huberman, Robin Goldsmith, Orion Feig, even Damian Gregg had returned for a visit looking spiffy in a Nehru jacket. Matthew started the evening reading from an anthology book called Verses that Hurt, with a poem called Bono and Knotts.

Robin Goldsmith, now on the No Rio board of directors, gave a report on the coming June 24th benefit. She talked about 'raising the profile' of No Rio. They need about $150,000 for the required City fees and they are about 1/2 way there. Hosts for the planned gala all day event will be Baron Von Blumenzak, Penny Arcade, and Matthew Courtney. Many volunteers are needed for this June 24th event celebrating twenty years of art and activism. Courtney reminded the throng that, "This is our ongoing mission to cure ignorance and apathy".

Orion Feig continued to keep the audience rolling in the aisles with his wordsmith mastery. David Huberman did a tribute to a long departed friend entitled Monica. Yours truly worked the crowd with Elevator Pitch #46 and Leased at Last!. Elmer Lang kept the audience spellbound with his t-shirt and speech that read:

The
only
person
who
really knows
what's
going on!

The Evil Steve used his very dry humor with lyric lines such as, "You were the gin in my vermouth". John Potash talked about his uncontrollable urge to fornicate. Jennifer Blowdryer got into the act reminding us that, "Mental illness is so tacky". Huberman had his 'theories' about Blowdryer's current state of mind. Katheryn Arnaldi had a Bina Sharif-Like diatribe called The Landlord, Katheryn's performance reminded us of Ray of Ray's News, in regard to his current situation.

The pace of this Wide Open Cabaret was much less intense than last months edition, however it made up in for it with much better spacing of the acts. Damian Gregg read from his Poem Cards, which he handed out as he finished them. Matthew then issued a 'short warning to everyone' about "photos never taken'. Music, then took its turn on the cabaret stage, as Robin Goldsmith was in a subdued mood on acoustic guitar. She was followed by Teri & Paul who demo'd toys to a cassio keyboard and a rhythm box.

As the soiree wound itself down, Vanessa Clark did three works, long, short and medium. The best line delivered all night was from her 1000 A&R (that's artists and repertoire) work, quote "1000 bands in 1000 clubs with 1000 people all waiting for that 'it' to emerge!" Try saying that four times in a row. Mark Desmond followed by, "cementing _____ _____ _____ in the soul of your neural pathways". David Eporia did a tribute to Cat Stevens with some very inspiring work.

Last is not least here on the cabaret stage and Debby Stein proved the rule, as she spelled out her life here on the Lower East Side. In this installment she tells us that, "Alvin is dead and I have lost and gained 112 pounds". We helped clean up the stage and then dashed off to the Chelsea Hotel to enjoy our $250 a night bed.
