ArtCall Diary - Entry 6/19/2000
Down the Toilet

It felt like life was flushing down the toilet. Maybe only the 'super'
art collector kdddds could save us now. Things felt backed up, even though
they weren't. First off, there was the Con Ed ransom notice for June 22nd,
stating that we owed them $100. Then on our tiny bank account there was
an erroneous $120 charge from some point-of-sale internet outfit. Headquarters
was pretty trashed by the previous night's birthday party. Where this needed
fix of money going to come from, to save us from our dilemma? I had no
idea. It just seemed like things were downright shitty.

After a birthday hamburger from McDonald's on Delancey 'that could not
be beat', Eric Miller and Calmx had stopped by on Friday to wish me a happy
birthday. It was kinda nice to feel old. Saturday arrived hot and muggy
and editing seemed to take forever to complete. Phone invitations went
out and only time would tell how good a job I could do over the phone.
A
fair number of folks showed up from the list that had been called. It was
enough to make the place lively, but then again, how many folks can you
actually stuff into 150 square feet? Clayton was the first to arrive, so
early I couldn't make a party run. Richard Gins was the next on arrival,
then along came Paul Cabezas from Brooklyn, then everything became hazy.
ABC No Rio's Petra and her (movie stock footage detective) friend LuAnn,
Calmx, Eric Miller, Avenue A Bill, Jamië Lavender, (performance artist)
Margaret, Scot Borofsky with his 2 children in tow all kept the place at
a nice busy sort of pitch.
We were webcasting the party on the ArtCall homepage and showing off
the latest in 3D computing. Clayton
spent an hour searching for some East Village guru's website. Elsa shot
video footage and Clayton shot rolls and rolls of stills. Margaret ( Robert
Parker's ex-diehard) was doing expressive, conversational, performance.
LuAnn, Calmx, and Petra held down the couch and chair with a gabfest 'that
could not be beat'. Out in the garden/exercise area, Richard Gins and Jamie
Lavender watched the Bowery traffic patterns while enjoying the night skylines
to the delightful weather.
Our streaming web phone was launched that fine evening. You can now access
the ArtCall Diary Jottings section on the wireless
web. Webbittown.net/up.hdml is the URL to enter on your cell phone that
will get you all the latest details of East Village invites. An alert service
is being worked out so that around an hour before an ArtCall event, you
can get an advance warning via your cell phone. KatKitty is feverishly
programming this fine little alert service, before she comes to New York.
Speaking of KatKitty,
she will be making an appearance for the ArtCall where she will be making
3D pictures on the spot, and answering all the technical questions surrounding
this wonderful new technology. KatKitty's five grand Minolta 1500 3D camera
is sure to delight you (examples).
She is in town for only 3 days, so be sure to make yourself an appointment
to get your works captured.
Headquarters has been busy getting the roster of ArtCall artists ready
for June 30th. I am spending a lot of time updating the master contact
list and in next issue, we will issue our preliminary roster of ArtCall
artists. Although if you are an astute reader of the diary, you can pretty
much guess just who those artists are. By the time the next issue is ready
to go live we will have our contact list totally up to date.
ArtCall woke up to find the above in our mailbox, along with an invitation
to go review this tasty little performance we missed last time around.
You can be sure that we will give Drama Desk, the award-winning, performance
space, the treatment next Sunday. And also on Saturday from noon to dusk
is the ABC No Rio Street Fair on
Rivington Street from Clinton to Suffolk. It will be a star studded affair
that we are going to video and get on streaming media. You can be sure
that this weekend's ArtCall Diary entries will jammed packed with all your
performance art stars and works from your favorite visual artists. We also
found an interesting piece of email from Amanda Skinner of globix.net that
told us more about streaming media than we learned all four days there.
Next Issue: The first edition of the ArtCall roster. How many drawings
will kdddds buy? CB's art opening.
