ArtCall Diary - Entry 8/04/2000
Rocked and Rolled

Webbittown Mascot - Rubberstamp from KatKitty
It might be just as well that we aren't on our way to Pennsylvania this weekend, to cover the outdoor Lama Farm rock show. We found ourselves a stamp of the ArtCall mascot the giraffe, chosen because we always have to stick our necks out and a giraffe is tall enough up to see the warning signs. Currently, we have over three days of downtime to recover from and we are rocked that so few redesigned shares have been turned in. (All the ArtCall artists should expect visits shortly.) There are a ton of pictures from the end of July that haven't made it into any diary entries, including over twelve disks of material from the Asylum of the Deranged.. KatKitty has been working on a slideshow for the Webbittown Web Site for this worthwhile performance. This slideshow will be bigger than the Red Spot Outdoor Slide Theater and will include many amazing photos of perversion and peppy spirit. So with this and the other missing coverage of art openings, performances, bounced check maladies, missing key mysteries, half started but never finished ArtCall's (which may wind up coming into the archive as a backdated entry), it is now time to proceed to this entries' agenda. I'll endeavor to catch up in the next 24 hours or so, as that is how long it takes to make a major issue such as this one.

Dangerous enough for a Collapse Rescue truck - July 13th, 2000Elsa Rensaa - enjoying life on her birthday - July 13th, 2000
Families were evacuated and the danger lasted quite awhile. Elsa Rensaa without a hat, on her birthday (this might be a first).
New LA2 work - Follin Gallery - July 15th 2000Shepard's Pie that could not be beat - Friend of a Farmer Restaurant

Random Cow sculpture - Houston and West Broadway - July 17th, 2000Greg Highlen at alt.coffee - July 17th, 2000
A random cow out on Houston and West Broadway. Greg Highlen at alt.coffee on Avenue A on a warm July night, as he picked up his share for redesigning.
Mark Kostabi - DeStijl style work in progress - Kostabi WorldKeith Haring - Dog barking on kitchen cabinet - collection of Follin Gallery
On the left a Mark Kostabi work in progress. ArtCall thinks that this will go down as a landmark of Kostabi art. If there was ever a must have Kostabi, this is one we would highly recommend. On the right a Keith Haring piece owned by Paul Kostabi, previously owned by LA2.
George Schneeman - egg tempora on wood - 2000 - Denahue/Sosinski ArtGeorge Schneeman- egg tempora - 2000 - Donahue/Sosinski Art
We stopped off at Donahue/Sosinski Art at their 3rd floor space on 560 Broadway, to enjoy the art of George Schneeman and to drop off a couple of shares for redesigning.
Alfredo Martinez - Donahue/Sosinski Art - July 19, 2000Bret Hammen - Donahue/Sosinski Art - July 19th, 2000
What a difference .03ths of a second makes (I was trying to capture an image of 59:59:59:59.) The work by Alfredo Maritnez hits the target as fun art to look at. Sound installations by Bret Hammen corner your art experience at the Summer 2000: Choices exhibit at Donahue/Sosinski Art.
Lance Fung and Raymond Huang - Lance Fung Gallery - July 19th, 2000
Lance Fung and Weimin Huang at Huang's opening July 19th, at the Lance Fung Gallery at 537 Broadway building.
Weimin Huang - Space in Memory / Sequencing - July 19th, 2000.
Exist Sign - Lance Fung/Emily Harvey Gallery - 537 BrodwayThe dog daze of summer are upon us.
As the dog daze of summer reign supreme, I headed towards the 'exist' door, and said good-bye to another successful fluxus opening at the Lance Fung Gallery.
ArtCall Headquarters - July 20th, 2000Anna Lascari - Checking out the Broome St. condo.
Anna Lascari came over to Headquarters, and we checked out a potential new pad for Anna on Broome Street, but the asking price had been jacked up.
Bob Dombrowski - Montserrrat Gallery - July 20th, 2000Marisol - Searching the Light - Montserrat Gallery - 584 Broadway New York, New York
Richard Gins came over and it was off to the Montserrat Gallery opening on July 20th, with all the usual suspects, Bob Dombrowski, Bokov, Diane Sbano, Aristides Duval, Luis Vega and a bevy of other hot art notables were there to wine and cheese.
Bokov - Montserrat Gallery - 584 Broadway - July 20th, 2000Marisol at her opening - Montserrat Gallery - July 20th 2000Jim Coll - Monserrat Gallery Owner - July 20th, 2000
In the last 15 years no one has shown more artists than Montserrat Gallery at their 584 Broadway location. Marisol Navajo was the featured artist at this show.
Michael P. San Filippo - The Italian Language Guide - Out in Soho - July 20th, 2000
July 20th, was one of the top three eye candy nites in Soho. Fanelli Cafe is a hot viewing spot, located at Prince and Mercer Streets. Michael San Filippo, About's Italian Language guide, was out with some lady friends. Michael likes to bring his own eye candy with him. We had fun catching up since our last meeting at "The Big Red Ball" in Las Vegas, last October.

Ray after cornering his landlord on July 20th. As we hung out on the stoop in Soho, Richard West (Richie Rich) stopped for a gabfest with Richard Gins. The gossip was so good we were late for Hammerbrain at the Continental. Calmx dropped and we walked up to the East Village for iced coffees at alt.coffee. Ray finally had a meeting with his landlord. He has been put on a month-to-month deathwatch, with an eviction likely this winter. A sad but inevitable sign of the times on Avenue A, now that even Avenue C is considered tame (safe for the tourists). I guess Avenue D is next. I wonder how long it will take for a railroad car flat to actually go for five grand, unimproved? Do they charge extra for rat infestation  Keep your ear to the ground for just when they lower the axe on Rays, on a cold and unsuspecting day.

Share redesigners # 1, 2, and 26 in front of Grilled Cheese on Ludlow Street July 21st, 2000.
Friday July 21st was pleasant and warm. Heidi Follin, Paul Kostabi and Colin Moynihan enjoying the night air at Grilled Cheese on Ludlow Street. Tia Sprocket and Aristedes Duval rounded out a star studded trek along Houston Street. Grilled Cheese at 164 Ludlow Street serves up some (you guessed it) dandy grilled cheese sandwiches.
Paul Kostabiesque type work at Broome Street Gallery - July 22nd, 2000Work by Adrienne Moumin at Soho 20 Gallery - July 22nd, 2000
Sultry was the best word to describe Saturday the 22nd. Calmx and I did some gallery hopping, starting at the Broome Street Gallery and Soho 20 Gallery.
Adrienne Moumin - At her Soho 20 opening July 22nd, 2000The Calmx pick for Art of the Day - July 22nd, 2000
Calmx decided to do some serious shopping that afternoon and we barely got to Soho 20 on time. Adrienne Moumin had a show opening there that day.
Cats from the cat rescuers on Broadway.
We dragged Calmx away from Armani Exchange, to do some heart felt shopping. There were cats available for adoption out on Broadway. The one in the center is Boots.

Eye Candy flag on Broadway or LafayetteAs Calmx and I walked up Lafayette, we happened across this interestingly titled flag. I have no idea what they sell in the store. Maybe it's all full of A list model types. We continued up Layfayette, past the Absolut New York billboard. The billboard was a mock up of an apartment in the shape of an Absolut bottle, an apartment bigger than headquarters (sigh.) I was envious, the bottle had a real bathroom and kitchen. We headed up to Danal restaurant on 10th Street for a dinner committee meeting with Heidi Follin and Paul Kostabi. Dinner in Danal's garden was a wonderful idea on such a warm night. Danal serves fantastic seafood, steak and vegetarian fare.

The cat from Danal - 90 East10th StreetMenu selection at Danal - July 22nd, 2000 - Heidi got the vegetarian dish.
We arrived to find Heidi and Paul waiting for us. The restaurant cat dropped by to welcome us as we were making our menu selections. My choice was of a sirloin that "could not be beat". A committee meeting ensued about our recent check (reality) difficulties.
Absolute Ensemble - Joe's Pub - July 23rd 2000
Monday led to an impromptu viewing of the Absolute Ensemble at Joe's Pub, part of the Public Theater on Lafayette Street. Kristian Jarvi ( the gent in the above photo with the striped sweater) is the leader of this modern jazz fusion band.
A study in concentration - Heidi Follin at the Absolute Ensemble - Joe's Pub - July 23rd, 2000
She didn't move for over 90 minutes.
Another successful gig for the Absolute Ensemble - Joe's Pub - July 23rd, 2000
The hip, trendy, patronage gave a rousing ovation.
Microsoft Outlook screen - Hisako Corn ticket requests via priceline.com
And as hard as we tried (and we knew what prices could be found), priceline.com let us down in our attempt at playing travel agent for Genevive's friend and bandmate Hisako Corn, for her trip to Paris next month. I guess we will have to issue another earnings warning to William Shatner.

Next Issue: Medical Record Department, (a preview) and we are over the 65% out mark.
